Wedding Boutonniere

Boutonnières and corsages are surprisingly easy to put together. Like most people on a wedding budget, I nearly fainted after getting an estimate from my local florist. That was when I decided to take matters into my own hands. If you know of a wholesale florist in your area, that would be the best starting place. It’s much cheaper, and much more fun to do it yourself.

What you need

  • Floral tape
  • Flowers of your choosing
  • Ribbon for bow around the corsage

Directions

For starters, you will need to work with medium sized flowers – I used ranunculas, but any medium sized flower will do. You will also need some filler for corsage stuffing. Sprigs of lavender are nice, or baby’s breath, or even a stray leaf from your bundle of flowers should do the trick.

Be sure to leave at least 2 inches of stem to work with when you cut the flower stems.

Start by placing your “filler” in hand and lay the flower over it.

Use floral tape and begin wrapping the stem, spiraling down to the end of the stem and back up to the top. Stretching the tape as you go helps with adhesion and ensures a tight wrap.

Tie ribbon around your mini-bouquet and its ready to wear!
